Electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) often contains substances or components that are hazardous to the environment, but they also have a strong potential for recycling the materials they are made of.

To address these health and environmental issues, the European Union has defined the conditions for placing EEE on the market as well as the framework for managing WEEE.
